Fondo Italiano per la Scienza will boost basic research with €50 million in grants
The first call of the Fondo Italiano per la Scienza, an Italian programme modelled on the European Research Council, will dish out €50 million to early career and advanced researchers.
The FIS call, which was published at the end of September, is split into two funding streams: Starting Grants for academics who received their PhD recently and Advanced Grants for top-level researchers with at least 10 years of experience. This sets the FIS apart from the ERC, which also has a third funding stream, Consolidator Grants, for investigators whose PhD was 7 to 12 years ago.
