Italy’s research council left in turmoil by fall of government

Fears for council’s operations as the board members’ extended terms expire soon

The recent collapse of Italy’s coalition government led by Giuseppe Conte has left the National Research Council in turmoil, with the fate of its board members in limbo.

The five-year term of the council’s current president Massimo Inguscio and three other board members already expired in January 2020, but they were allowed to stay on in their positions for fixed extension terms.
