Spending on knowledge guarantees freedom, Dutch MP Jan Paternotte tells Erik te Roller
The D66 liberal party is campaigning for a substantial increase in Dutch R&D expenditure. The party, a member of the governing coalition, has pledged to improve financing for research and innovation as part of its manifesto for the parliamentary election in March 2021.
Jan Paternotte, an MP for the party and former member of the Amsterdam city council, says such expenditure is crucial to support political independence and economic advantages across Europe.
