Dutch committee finds no ethical issues with lifting ban on laboratory-created embryos
The nationwide ban on creating embryos for research in the Netherlands should be lifted and the maximum lifespan of embryos should be doubled to boost stem cell and fertility science, an evaluation committee has recommended.
Dutch legislation on using laboratory-created embryos in science was created in 2002, but rapid developments in genetics and medical science have started to make such laws irrelevant and even counterproductive, the committee said in its report.
