Dutch researchers work on alternatives to animal testing

Three projects with government backing aim to find alternatives to animal experiments

The Dutch government has expressed support for three research projects looking at non-animal testing of drugs and other chemical substances to reduce the number of animals in laboratories.

ZonMW, the main public funder of medical research in the Netherlands, is subsidising two five-year projects through its Create2Solve call, each with a maximum of €1 million. The projects are led by researchers at Utrecht University and the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.
