Staff attack decision to let go academic who criticised university over gender equality and promotion

Staff and students at the University of Groningen have held campus-wide protests in support of a colleague who faced a disciplinary procedure after criticising the university’s gender equality efforts and failure to promote her. This week the case resulted in a district court ruling that the university was entitled to terminate her contract.

Videos shared on social media platform Twitter showed several hundred people turning up to protest ahead of the court’s decision. Protests have also been taking place on Twitter for several days, using the hashtag #AmINext.
