Norwegian academics struggle to find time for research

Grant writing, teaching and admin work contribute to stress and overtime, survey finds

Although they work more than they did in 2016, non-professorial academic staff at Norwegian universities and colleges spend less time on research, a survey has found.

The survey, which was conducted by research institute NIFU and the Norwegian Association of Researchers (NAR), called for a better ratio between staff and students, as well as more time for academics to conduct research work. The study was commissioned by the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and concerns the academic year of 2020-2021.
