Parliamentary declaration triggers petition over fears that politics might limit university activities

A declaration adopted by the Folketinget, the Danish parliament, has triggered waves of protest and petitions from researchers and lecturers across the country.

The declaration, titled ‘On excessive activities in certain research environments’, was adopted on 1 June. It asks university leaders to ensure the “self-regulation” of academic practice in order to avoid what the parliament deems excessive political influence in science.
