Scientists demand examination of Danish research freedom

Open letter denounces lack of formal enshrinement of academic free speech and calls for investigation

Hundreds of Danish scientists have signed an open letter addressed to politicians, which calls for the establishment of an investigation committee to scrutinise academic freedom.

The investigation is needed to understand which legal and political changes should be made to protect and improve the conditions of freedom of research in Denmark, the letter states. “It is time that we tell you how things are at the universities and what conditions idea development is subjected to today,” the scientists told the political parties.
