Sweden’s investment in medical R&D continues to drop

Lobby group demands that incoming government do more to protect and increase public innovation spending

Swedish government spending on medical R&D has fallen for a third year in a row in relation to the country’s GDP, according to a report by Forska!Sverige, a pro-science lobby group.

In a report published earlier this month, the group called on the incoming government to reverse the trend and increase medical R&D spending in line with economic growth. Sweden elected a new government on 11 September, resulting in a slight majority for the conservative right-wing bloc.
