Newly appointed minister has vowed to ‘defend Polish schools against LGBT ideology’

Hundreds of people have taken to the streets to protest Przemysław Czarnek becoming Poland’s minister for science and education, saying his remarks criticising gay people and other groups make him unfit for office, according to media reports.

Czarnek (pictured), a professor at the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland, was appointed to the ministerial post on 19 October. His reported comments denigrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people have caused significant anger.
