Portuguese higher education applications hit 25-year high

Public universities receive more than 62,000 applicants for 2020-21 academic year

Applications to access public higher education have hit a 25-year high in Portugal, the country’s government announced on 24 August.

It said there had been 62,675 applicants for the 2020-21 academic year—11,384 more than in 2019-20, and the most since 1996-97. Total enrolments in higher education, both public and private, have also risen and are expected to reach 90,000 for 2020-21, up from 84,000 in 2019-20, according to the government.
