Commission vice-president eyes stronger academic ties to Belarus

More EU and institutional support is needed, says Frans Timmermans

Frans Timmermans, a European Commission vice-president, has called for strengthened academic ties between the EU and Belarus amid growing concern among European politicians and academics about conditions in the country.

In an article published by the news site Euractiv on 10 June, Timmermans (pictured) said the ongoing crackdown on pro-democracy activists in Belarus was “a moment of truth” for the EU.
