2021 budget boosts cohesion

Budget includes €48.2 billion on regional development and €2.7bn for Erasmus+

The European Commission has revealed how money for the first year of the EU’s next seven-year, €1 trillion budget will be spent—with billions of euros allocated to research and education through the bloc’s cohesion funding, its Digital Europe programme and the Erasmus+ mobility scheme.

The Commission’s breakdown of funding comes after EU institutions formally approved the budget on 17 December, paving the way for programmes, including the Horizon Europe R&D programme, to begin in January 2021.
