New EU presidency to provide support for Horizon Europe partnerships and European Research Area

Portugal has set out the priorities for its six-month presidency of the Council of the EU, focusing on climate action, digital resilience and strengthening the bloc’s autonomy. Council presidencies chair EU member state governments’ work on EU-related legislation and policymaking.

Portugal will also oversee the approval of the bloc’s first climate law to make Europe carbon-neutral by 2050 and “reinforce” the EU’s strategic autonomy.
