UK-EU relations
Twenty-five groups representing Europe’s academic and research sector wrote to European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen expressing their alarm over the delay to the UK joining the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme. In an open letter, the groups urged the Commission to complete UK association to the €95.5 billion Horizon Europe programme immediately, saying the absence of a clear timeline was “causing increasing concern”. A commitment to UK association was agreed in 2020, but the Commission has delayed meeting it despite pressing ahead with the association of other countries.
