Education chief says work is underway on issues including geographical scope of cross-border alliances

The European Commission has said it “has heard” the concerns of higher education institutions about the EU’s European Universities Initiative for raising standards in education and research by funding cross-border collaborative alliances of institutions—and is working on at least some of those concerns.

Speaking about the EUI on 26 May, Themis Christophidou (pictured), the Commission’s top education official, said: “We have heard the sector’s calls for more, and more long-term, financing. And we understand that it is crucial for higher education institutions to have a long-term perspective.” She did not say whether the Commission was working on these concerns.
