Research commissioner says citizens should “cherish” research, as minister says investment will make careers attractive

Society should “cherish” and have “more respect” for research, according to the EU R&D commissioner, Mariya Gabriel.

Speaking about trust in science at a press conference midway through a 19 July meeting of EU research ministers in Slovenia, which holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, Gabriel called for a greater appreciation of the research profession.
