European Space Agency ‘needs the UK’, says its head

Josef Aschbacher tells Royal Society the UK is full of science and engineering excellence

The head of the European Space Agency, Josef Aschbacher, has emphasised that the UK is a valuable contributor to the body, at a time when the EU is mulling whether to collaborate with the country on sensitive technology R&D projects.

Aschbacher (pictured) delivered a post-Brexit love letter to the UK at an event on the future of European space policy hosted by the Royal Society in London on 15 September. Esa—a non-EU, intergovernmental organisation—counts the UK among its 22 member countries.
