Push “threatens the future of effective biomedical research in Europe”, says advocacy organisation
The European Parliament has called for the EU to put a timeline on its goals to reduce and eventually replace the use of animals in research, as well as for the faster development of alternatives through actions including increased R&D funding.
The call, in a resolution that passed on 15 September by 667 votes to 4, has been welcomed by animal rights groups but strongly criticised by an organisation that advocates for the ethical use of animals in research until replacements can be found.
