Call for ‘dialogue’ with Hungary on academic freedom

Head of European Parliament delegation to Budapest cites “need to continue structured dialogue with Hungary”

The head of a delegation of MEPs who visited the capital of Hungary to examine academic freedom in the country first hand says there needs to be a “dialogue” on the topic.

After the EU’s top court ruled in 2020 that a Hungarian law forcing a university to move most of its activities out of Budapest was a violation of parts of the EU’s charter, concerns for academic freedom in the country have heated up.
