Pressure on scientific advice ‘could outlast current crises’

Academy federation president Antonio Loprieno says pandemic and Ukraine war have hastened need for advice

It is unlikely that the “pressure” experienced by those providing scientific advice to governments will end when the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine subside, the head of a group of European learned academies has warned.

“I am afraid that the pressure is here to stay for a while so we better deal with it in an intelligent way,” Antonio Loprieno, the president of the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (Allea), said this week.
