Early applications for funding from Horizon Europe, the EU’s €95.5 billion 2021-27 research and innovation programme, had a success rate of 17.3 per cent, according to a European Commission analysis. This is much higher than the 11.9 per cent overall success rate for applications from the predecessor programme, Horizon 2020, although it comes from a much narrower range of funding calls. In addition the Commission’s annual report on its research activities said that 19 Horizon Europe grant agreements had been signed by the end of 2021, approving EU funding of about €246 million.
