European researchers urged to be ‘more assertive’ on use of animals

European Animal Research Association reiterates alarm at recent political moves to phase out animal research

Researchers must be less reactive and more assertive about the benefits of using animals in biomedical research, according to the head of the European Animal Research Association, which campaigns for the responsible use of animals in research until alternatives are available.

Kirk Leech, executive director of EARA, wrote in a blog published by the Federation of European Biomedical Societies on 25 October that the EU was “reaching a watershed moment in the debate on the use of animals in biomedical research”.
