Michael Ignatieff says Central European University’s funding from billionaire George Soros presented challenges

A former head of the Central European University, which aims to foster critical thought and education with the support of billionaire George Soros, has said that working with such benefactors presents difficulties due to institutional reliance on them.

“I’ve run a private university, exclusively funded by a billionaire, and I can tell you—it’s not easy,” Michael Ignatieff (pictured) said in a lecture on academic freedom at the Royal Society in London, UK, on 25 October.
