Research heads embrace EU action on career precarity

   

Move to improve working conditions for young researchers welcome, if overdue, university groups say

Leaders of European research organisations have hailed EU legislators’ plans to improve working conditions for the bloc’s researchers—especially young researchers—as part of their work on the European Research Area standards-raising policy initiative.

The Council of the EU published a draft text calling on the European Commission and member states “to promote measures to reduce precarity in young researchers…and provide them with sustainable and attractive research careers” amid rising career instability.
