Research-integrity system ‘must support young researchers more’

Junior researchers ‘often sacked’ in misconduct cases while senior colleagues remain in post, conference hears

Universities’ systems for enforcing research integrity must do more to support early career researchers, according to senior academics with experience of integrity investigations.

“The problem for young academics is still the hierarchy and their dependency,” said Moniek Tromp, a materials chemistry professor at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and one of several researchers who spoke at a 22 March conference on integrity co-organised by the Academia Europaea.
