University leaders split on degree of European Research Area input

Commission chief’s description of “intensive interaction” with previously unhappy university groups gets mixed response

University representatives are split over whether the European Commission is listening to them as it draws up the pact that will steer the governance of the European Research Area in the years ahead, and which is due to be discussed at a meeting on 22 June.

The Pact for Research and Innovation will establish a set of common principles, priorities and governance mechanisms for a renewed ERA—the longstanding suite of EU policies to integrate and improve Europe’s national research systems.
