German universities want ‘long-term EU perspective’ on alliances

European Universities Initiative alliances should have dedicated funding stream, 35 institutions say

Dozens of German higher education institutions participating in the EU’s scheme for funding cross-border institutional alliances have called on the European Commission to support a “long-term” perspective on the programme.

In its pilot phase, the European Universities Initiative has allocated 41 alliances up to €7 million each from the EU’s academic mobility scheme and R&D programme, for work on activities including joint strategies, campuses, programmes and appointments intended to raise research and education standards and increase mobility.
