More momentum for EU research assessment reform agreement

European Commission and UK Research and Innovation sign push to make assessment fairer

A European-led agreement designed to shake up how researchers are assessed has gained two major signatories, in the shape of the European Commission and the UK’s national research funding agency.

Organisations that sign the agreement, which was finalised earlier this year, commit to its core aims, which include abandoning the use of “inappropriate” journal- and publication-based metrics and avoiding international rankings when assessing researchers.
