Progress made on assessment reform

Timeline in sight for implementing agreement to move away from narrow focus on scholarly publications

Organisations are close to agreeing how and when they will implement commitments on reforming research assessment, according to a key member of the team drawing up the EU-led plans.

In late 2021, the European Commission announced it would coordinate a coalition of organisations in pledging to reform research assessment, given the current narrow focus on publication-based metrics and widespread recognition of their negative effect on research culture and careers.
