EU-led plan to reform research assessment goes public

Plan to “recognise full breadth of research value” includes abandoning inappropriate use of publication metrics

A final version of the long-awaited EU-led agreement on reforming research assessment has been made public, with controversial commitments retained from draft versions previously reported by Research Professional News.

Coordinated by the European Commission but drafted by sector representatives, the agreement is intended as a way for not-for-profit research organisations to commit to improving how they assess institutions, projects and researchers, by making assessment fairer and more reflective of the breadth of research roles and outputs.
