One year on: views of the pandemic

Special edition: Covid-19 comment from our Research Europe and Research Fortnight contributors

On 23 March 2020, UK prime minister Boris Johnson addressed the country. “From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction—you must stay at home,” he said.

Even before this other European nations were bringing in their own lockdowns. On 13 March 2020, the director general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that Europe had become “the epicentre” of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Throughout 2020, opinion writers for Research Europe and Research Fortnight detailed how Covid-19, the measures to contain it, and its wider social and economic ramifications reached every aspect of life. Originally published in December, this special edition brings together a collection of their work.
