Omicron crashes the party

A day after we published our previous issue of Research Europe, all hell broke loose over the Omicron variant of the virus. That issue was already somewhat gloomy about the direction of Covid-19, with the World Health Organization’s graph of seven weeks of rising cases and deaths in Europe occupying the ‘picture of the week’ slot.
