Transforming academic mobility is tough—the UK’s return to Erasmus+ would be a step forward
In the early days of Europe’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, there was much talk about the possibility of transformation, in research and higher education as much as in wider society: more widespread and effective use of new technology; greater international cooperation around major challenges; R&I systems that would strengthen responses to future emergencies.
While these ambitions have not gone away, it will come as no surprise to those in the sector that a major study has found European higher education has not yet undergone the kind of sea-change some had wished for.
