$1.1m gift ‘will lift the University of Canterbury’s national and international research profile’

The late Peter Holland, one of New Zealand’s leading environmental academics, has left a $1.1 million bequest to fund scholarships for Māori and Pacific Islands postgraduate researchers at the University of Canterbury.

Cheryl de la Rey, the university’s vice-chancellor, said the scholarships would help to create “a new generation of leaders who will make a truly positive impact on the world”.
