Broader definition of research proposed for New Zealand’s system of higher education R&D funding
New Zealand’s government looks set to upend the definition of research in the Performance-Based Research Fund to include a much broader range of topics and outputs.
Following an earlier public consultation process, the Sector Reference Group set up to oversee the reforms has published a second consultation paper on the guidelines for the fund. The PBRF is the main system of government funding for higher education research, distributing NZ$315 million annually to New Zealand universities.
