Female scientists funded by NIHR underrepresented at senior levels

Funder promises new policies and interventions as data reveal underrepresentation of women and ethnic minorities

Female and ethnic minority scientists funded by the National Institute for Health Research are underrepresented at senior career levels, new data from the UK funder have revealed.

According to the funder’s first diversity data report for 2020-21, women make up just 40.6 per cent of NIHR senior investigators and 42.3 per cent of professors—the highest career levels.
