Study reveals dearth of BAME postgraduates in UK geosciences

        

Authors call for decolonisation work and ring-fenced opportunities for ethnic minority students

A study published in the current issue of Nature Geoscience journal has revealed the under-representation of postgraduate students from ethnic minority backgrounds in UK geoscience.

The study found that geology, physical geography and environmental science are the three worst physical science subjects for representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic students in full-time undergraduate study in UK higher education, with poor progression into postgraduate research.
