Leverhulme funds three centres for cross-disciplinary research

Imperial College London, the University of Oxford and the University of York are to set up centres for cross-disciplinary research funded by the Leverhulme Trust.

The 2018 Leverhulme Research Centre awards go to the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society, the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, and the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity, the trust announced on 11 January. Each centre will receive up to £10m over 10 years.

The Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society will draw on the expertise of physical and social scientists to improve prediction and management of wildfires around the world. It will be led by Apostolos Voulgarakis, a senior lecturer in global climate and environmental change at Imperial College London, with collaborations at King’s College London, the University of Reading and Royal Holloway.
