Failure of adequate care for lab animals ‘significant concern’

Government data show that case of non-compliance with animal welfare rules remains an issue

The number of cases of failure to provide adequate care to research animals in the UK has not improved for several years, although the absolute number remains low, according to the latest official data.

The numbers have “remained roughly constant, ranging between 10 and 12 cases a year”, says an annual report from the Home Office’s Animal in Science Regulation Unit, which looked at data for 2015-2018.
