Government should modernise and adapt rather than create brand new strategy, say policy experts

Science policy experts have warned against rewriting the government’s industrial strategy as they insist the current document is broad enough to accommodate changes to the research and innovation landscape.

The warning follows reports in the Financial Times that business secretary Alok Sharma was “ripping up” the 2017 white paper and producing a new document this autumn with a heavy focus on science and technology and “levelling up” the regions of the UK.
