COP26 comes out with ‘vague’ draft agreement

Experts want ‘more ambition and more precision’ on emission reduction targets from Glasgow summit

Negotiators at the United Nations’ COP26 climate summit in Glasgow have published a draft agreement that “recognises” the importance of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and “urges” nations to make pledges towards that goal.

But the text, which will now be haggled over in the coming days, falls short of agreeing specific actions demanded by many campaigners, and sets the date for limiting warming to 1.5C by 2100.
