Amid levelling-up discussion, report argues concentration of funding in UK is not unusual
As debate about ‘levelling up’ and spreading research funding more broadly continues, the Higher Education Policy Institute has claimed that other nations—including Germany and the US—actually have greater geographical concentration of research funding.
Authors of the Hepi report, Sarah Chaytor, Grace Gottlieb and Graeme Reid, all at University College London, say that concentration of R&D investment in certain parts of the country is a widespread characteristic of research globally, and not something that is unique to the UK.
