Cuts move beyond current year as senior figure brands them “a major scientific error”

One of the UK’s most senior medical researchers has warned that cuts to research funded by national aid spending are unlikely to be temporary, as it emerged over summer that the damage will go beyond this year.

The government’s decision to cut aid spending has had huge knock-on effects for researchers in the UK and abroad, with teams across the globe cutting staff and scaling back projects.
