Overseas institutions already looking to poach winners of European Research Council grants amid eligibility gridlock

Researchers who have just won funding from one of the European Union’s most prestigious schemes are considering leaving the UK due to uncertainty around the country’s access to Horizon Europe, Research Fortnight can reveal. 

Some UK-based winners of the European Research Council’s (ERC) Starting Grants for early career researchers already have lucrative offers to move abroad. They say that institutions in the EU are actively seeking to poach stars from the latest pool of grant winners, announced last week.
