Former universities minister calls for competitive visas and more ambitious recruitment targets
The UK needs a new International Education Strategy to set more ambitious targets for international student recruitment and to ensure that post-study work visas for graduates compete with those on offer in other countries, a former universities and science minister has said.
Chris Skidmore, who held the higher education ministerial brief twice between 2018 and 2020, said that a fresh strategy is required as circumstances in other nations—including the US, Canada and Australia—could potentially make them more attractive to international students.
