Participation in Copernicus earth observation programme latest casualty of political dispute between UK and EU

British scientists are preparing to be dropped from projects under the EU’s €5.4 billion earth observation programme, Copernicus, after hearing that some UK partners will be “terminated”.

The news has come as a shock since the UK is, on paper, still in the waiting room to join EU R&D programmes including Copernicus after an agreement reached in December 2020. Until UK membership is officially approved, researchers have been able to continue participating in projects.
