Government confirms Kwarteng to have “temporary” responsibility for R&D following George Freeman’s resignation

Business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has been given temporary responsibility for science, research and innovation, amid an ongoing political crisis which saw around 50 government figures—including the UK science minister—step down.

In a bulletin sent on 11 July, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy confirmed several changes to the portfolios of its remaining ministers.
