More leading researchers departing as delay over joining EU R&D programmes continues

Top researchers are continuing to leave the country to keep their prestigious European Research Council grants as the UK’s access to the EU’s R&D programmes remains stymied.

Without the EU’s sign-off on UK ‘association’ to its Horizon Europe R&D programme, UK-based winners cannot take up grants from funders such as the ERC. Instead, they are faced with a choice to keep the grants and move, or to take up less prestigious domestic ‘safety net’ funding and stay.
